Jose Nevarez

Jose Nevarez is in his fourth year at the University of Portland where he oversees all aspects of video production for the Athletic Department. He is responsible for day-to-day operations of the department including the management of freelance and student workforces. Nevarez also produces Portside with the Pilots – a weekly show on NBCS Northwest – and a slate of linear games for the network, as well as featuring all things Pilot athletics.

Nevarez was integral in developing Portland’s broadcast infrastructure and live productions. In November of 2016, he helped develop a centralized control room on campus to broadcast all sports. In 2015, he was nominated for a NATAS Northwest Emmy Award for a feature story, “Gus & Travis: The Ultimate Gift”, about two former teammates who developed a lifelong connection through a kidney donation that saved one’s life. Two Portland interns have also won NATAS Northwest Emmy Awards in the student categories under Nevarez’s guidance.

Prior to joining the University of Portland, Nevarez worked as a video production intern with the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer and continues to contract freelance work with the franchise.
