,This year’s SVG College Summit will feature a few new additions, including the introduction of the SVG/NACDA College Sports Media Awards Festival — a full morning featuring award-winning storytellers sharing and breaking down their very best productions, while taking questions from you. Friday will also feature a special Engineering Workshop Track dedicated solely to sharpening the technical expertise of you and your team.

College Sports Media Awards Festival

For a decade, the SVG/NACDA College Sports Media Awards has wowed peers and raised the competitive bar across the industry of college sports video content creators. These awards have honored storytelling at its absolute finest. In celebration of the ceremony’s 10th anniversary, some of the most successful winners throughout the years share some of their best work, explain their creative and technological process, and field questions from the audience in this in-depth and intimate look at how some of the best sports stories have been told.

PROGRAM SERIES
9:00 – 9:20 a.m.: Patriot League | Among the Few: Class of 1977 Gettysburg Leadership Encounter
Program Series are where content creators can truly flex their creative muscle, regularly dedicating themselves to the art of telling the stories of their campuses and what makes them special. This year, the Patriot League produced a seven-part mini-series titled “Among the Few,” which details the U.S. Naval Academy’s Class of 1977 Gettysburg Leadership Encounter. Our presenter, Morgan Uber, who worked alongside Patriot League Director of Multimedia & Creative Services Jimmy Johnson, produced this stirring series that serves as a tribute to the fallen soldiers of the Civil War and the current young men and women serving our country today.

9:20 – 9:35 a.m.: LTN Case Study: LTN’s IP Video Network, Providing Flexible Live Solutions for Learfield Schools
Live games and programming is at the core of how schools can reach their fan base, generating brand awareness and revenue. How schools transmit that valuable content can be challenging. LTN demonstrates how they provide solutions for several Learfield schools.

A heart-warming story from ESPN College GameDay proves that when storytellers are always on the look out for their next great piece, magical things can happen. Special Features are the filmmaking artist’s greatest medium. In many cases, sports simply serve as a backdrop to an incredible human story. This heart-warming story proves that when storytellers are on the look out for their next great piece, magical things can happen.

10:45 – 11:10 a.m.: Big East Conference | BIG EAST Shootaround
The content boom that the sports industry has seen over the past few years has led to a huge spike in the creation of content surrounding a live event. It’s dramatically changed the type of content submitted to the Live Non-Game Production category of the CSMAs. This year, the Big East Conference showed a noted commitment to live social with the debut of its weekly series BIG EAST Shootaround that aired exclusively on Facebook Live. The Big East’s Director of Digital and Social Content Brad Zak takes you inside the show that ultimately made it all the way through to Villanova’s national championship victory.

LIVE GAME PRODUCTION
11:10 – 11:30 a.m.: Brigham Young University | BYUtv Sports
At the core of sports, it all comes down to the games. The production of a live event is an incredible task with many pieces coming together through the talent of many people. Few have done live event production better over the years than BYUtv. Senior coordination producer — and veteran of ESPN — Mikel Minor shares his tips on taking a live game broadcast to the next level.

Engineering Workshop

LOCATION: Oak Room

As on-campus media infrastructures become more robust and the demand for content on a daily basis continues to balloon, it becomes more critical to have a tech maven behind the scenes making sure everything remains in tip-top shape. Some athletic departments are blessed with a full-time engineer on staff. Many are not. This intimate workshop track is designed to give some surface-level skills for those looking to bone up on some engineering basics while providing the tools to return to campus with the information needed to advocate for a fulltime engineer on campus.
